"In it there are some photos from St Pats Silverstream, some in the "Pre-war page" of the boys lining up for the Train and also military practice. Dr Mons John Broadbent RIP (1943-46)

Died peacefullly on 27 November 2016 in Wellington.

The Mons was a priest of the Archdiocese of Wellington. He was ordained in 1955 and in his ministry has taught in several seminaries, universities, and a Protestant Theological college. He has written numerous journal articles, entries for the New Zealand Dictionary of Biography, a brief history The Formation of the Catholic Archdiocese of Wellington 1840-1988 and, in 2002, the volume: Restoring the Laity's Balance to an Unsteady Church.

Bill Anderson (1951-55) checking his college Athletics records that he broke in the 1954 in the U17 880yds and the mile. In 1955 he broke the long standing (29 years) Senior 880yds record of 2mins 04.6secs set by R Leech in 1926 with his time of 2min 03.5secs. Ted Benton set the current record with a time of 1min 56.2secs in 1971. Bill broke the other long standing  (31 years ) Senior mile record of 4min 42secs set by his father Ray in 1924 with his time of 4min 40.5secs. Matt Pavitt set the current record with a time 4min 06.97secs in 2010. (imperial measurements were converted to metric distances in 1970) Note: When St Patrick's College was relocated to Silverstream in 1931 the Athletics records came out to Silverstream.

Fr Noel Delaney SM (1935-40) Head Boy, Staff (1954-63) Rector Hato Paroa (1965-71) Provincial of the Society of Mary in NZ (1973-81) SPCOBA  Old Boy of the year 2011 on behalf of the Foundation I wish to extend our condolences and sympathies to Fr Noel's family, confreres and friends who have deeply loved and respected him throughout his Priestly vocation.

The 1st XV Rugby team win 84th traditional against Wellington College 38-27 and were awarded the Ken Gray Cup while the 1st X1 Football team are defeated 0-3 to hand over the Fred Rooker Memorial Cup to Wellington College. The Senior Basketball lost 53-74.

It is now 70 years since the Japanese surrendered to the Allied Powers on 15 August 1945 thus ending the Second World War. Many New Zealand servicemen fought and died in the Pacific theatre of the war. By opening this link you can read the incredible story of survival of  George Luoni 1935-38. Special thanks to his son Chris (1965-69) for this article on his father.
